This is not my normal style of video but we are in interesting times.
I originally had an alternative idea for this week's video where there was intentionally no mention of the 'corona' word. Simply because you're no doubt hearing this from your friends, colleagues, the students in your school and certainly the Head because I'm sure you've had to draw up a communications plan for when your school closes.
This video was recorded on Monday evening (16 Mar) when schools are still open. By the time you read this they might all be closed. Who knows?
But having just arrived at this delightful roadside hotel(!) I realised I'd spent 5 hours in the car just now thinking about what I could do to help in any small way with the situation that schools are in.
I was wondering if there's anything I can do to help the students in your school. But I figured there probably isn't because I don't understand the national curriculum or how to get students to pass exams. Maybe your art/photography teacher has an idea how I could help... Please ask them to let me know if need be.
But if I can't do that can I help school marketing managers instead. This got me thinking about the whole concept of online training, something I love to do. When not shooting I devour learning through online training.
This got me thinking that maybe there's something I could do to help school marketing managers when they're at home. Don't forget that when you're all at home my shooting diary comes to an abrupt halt!
So at the end of my 5 hour journey I thought that maybe I could create an online training course for school marketing managers to show them how to create their own videos with a smartphone or tablet (or the school's digital camera).
Might this be a useful aid to shoot your own videos for your website or your social media? Something you're creating.
If you think this is a good idea then please let me know. If you think this is a bad idea then definitely let me know!
Because I wouldn't wan t to create something that schools don't actually want. So please let me know either way, that would be super helpful.
One more thing to say, those of you who know me will know this video comes to you with good intentions, it's from the heart. Because I know lots of you and have worked with a lot of you.
It's not coming to you with me taking advantage of a bad situation. I'm not looking to cash in on Corona. Those of you who know me will know this is all well intentioned. So please, if you are one of the one or two people then please don't because that's not what it's about.
Please stay safe. Please look after the Oldies in your family, the Oldies in your community. See what you can do to help and at some point we'll all be over this.
